16 November, 2017. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has launched the LuQuLuQu campaign; a collaborative effort by the UN Refugee Agency and prominent African personalities and companies to promote the principles and values of sharing responsibility for one another, and sharing resources, in support of the families forced to flee conflict and violence in Africa.
LuQuLuQu encourages individuals to take ownership of changing the narrative of the African refugee and promote self-reliance among forcibly displaced families.
Speaking with CapeTalk 567AM, Nomzamo Mbatha , who is an actress in South Africa and UNHCR’s LuQuLuQu ambassador emphasised on the importance of being one, regardless of our colour, or tribe;
“So we are saying that we are one tribe beyond borders, beyond language, beyond skin and our displacement. We are saying refugees deserve to be supported by their African neighbours.”
