At the frist activation of three which took place in Kenya, UNHCR staff, High Level Influencers and dancers entertained the crowds that gathered at Sarit Centre to learn more and possibly join in the LuQuLuQu movement. These engagements included taking instapictures and sharing on social media to engage with supporters online.
Shoppers turned up in numbers to share stories and meet with their local celebrities including Pinky Ghelani (renounde model), Mercy Masikan (Gospel musician) and Amina Abdi (Radio presenter). Shopper were also given a chance to take pictures with the high level influencers who they met at the event. Sarit Centre was the place to be on the 18th of November as crowds were treated to performances by Mercy Maskia as well as professional dancers who pained images of hope and togetherness which is what the LuQuLuQu campaign is all about.
The event, whose objective is to create awareness and raise funds to support our displaced brothers and sisters live to their full potential, had shoppers donate via mobile money. Every donation will go facilitate UNHCR’s provision of Food, Shelter, education and other basic needs to the refugees.
At Sarit Centre, shoppers also got a chance to visit the field and see how refugees live from the Virtual Reality (VR) kits. The VR kits played 3D videos of refugees in different places across Africa. This was meant to make people understand and see life from the eyes of a Refugees and what the refugees go through on a daily basis.
An amazing evening of entertainment, storytelling and donation filled the air as more and more people joined the ever growing LuQuLuQu tribe.
The LuQuLuQu campaign is launching in 6 countries in Africa in its initial phases. These countries are Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. So far the campaign has launched in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Kenya.
